  • JUNE 27, 2007 - ENOY FIREWORKS, GREAT FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT WHILE RAISING DOLLARS TO HELP THE HOMELESS AT THE ROCKIN’ ROOFTOP BLAST!!! - 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. - at the Courtyard Marriott Rooftop - 333 Jefferson in Downtown Detroit.

    A VIP Reception will begin at 6:00 pm. Tickets may be purchased on line at www.cotsdetroit.org and start at $50.00 per person, or call 313-831-3777 x285 for more information. Ask about free parking at the attached Millender Center garage.

    The Coalition On Temporary Shelter (COTS) has teamed up with Tiger’s Outfielder Curtis Granderson to make viewing the spectacular International Freedom Festival fireworks display an unforgettable experience. The guests will be treated to a front row fireworks seat, pampered with food, drink, entertainment and even hand rolled cigars in the authentic Cuban style. COME JOIN THE FUN!!!


  • June 16, 2007 - The 44th Annual Bal Africain Art Banquet will be held at the Detroit Institute of Art. You may RSVP before June 8th or obtain more information by calling 313-833-1049 or visit www.dia.org

  • Bal Africain honors Ghanian King and focuses on African Legacy: Art & Culture. African Legacy: Art & Culture is the theme for the 44th Annual Bal Africain. His Majesty, Nene Sakite, King of Manya Krobo, Ghana, will be honored by the DIA and Friends of African and African American Art (FAAAA). WDIV-TV 4’s Rhonda Walker will serve as mistress of ceremonies. Bal Africain has become one of Metro Detroit’s premiere fundraising initiatives, yet at its core it remains a one-of-a-kind evening of art, fine dining and dancing. Revenue generated from Bal Africain is used by the FAAAA to sponsor lectures, fund educational programs, and to acquire works of arts for the DIA’s African and African American collections.


  • June 11 - 17, 2007 - Empowerment News on Comcast Channel 68 will feature Cathy McClelland of the Detroit Entrepreneurship Institute; the President of the Detroit City Council Kenneth Cockrel Jr., and the Annual Men in Schools Day, sponsored by A.R.I.S.E. Detroit and Community in Schools. The program is set to air everyday in the week .


  • JUNE 1, 2007 - 3rd Annual Stop the Violence” Rally - 6:00 p.m.— 9:00 p.m. - @ the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History M.A.N.N.I.E. Project” (Mending A Neighborhood Needing Impact Everyday)- “BUILDING A BRIDGE BETWEEN BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY”, Featuring a question & answer panel of prominent Detroiters: Akindele Akinyemi, Executive Director of One Detroit; Edward Foxworth III, Host of Street Beat; Raphael Johnson Community Reintegration Coordinator Goodwill Industries; Pastor Glenn Plummer Senior Pastor Ambassadors for Christ & CTN and Donnell White Deputy Director Detroit Branch NAACP. There will also be a Silent Auction hosted by the Artist Village.

    The event will be Hosted by: Spudd Hot 102.7 and Moderated by: Denise Crittendon Editor of the African American Magazine.
